players of yesteryear: Les (Joe) Watson
Our article featuring a programme from a 1948
game between Boldmere and Lockheed Leamington prompted
Tony Madge to send us this information about his uncle "Joe",
who was playing at number 6 that day.
Joe was a true footballer: he played for many years for the
likes of Shrubland St School, Leamington Southend, HMS Leith
(wartime), Lockheed Leamington, Stratford Town, Warwick
Town and Saltisford Rovers. When he finished playing he
went regularly to see league games at Birmingham, Villa,
Wolves and Coventry. He
finally hung up his boots at the age of 72. The fantastic
pictures here were provided by Joe's niece.

Our sincere thanks to Tony Madge for this article. Tony has
himself been a Brakes follower since the 50's.

in years gone by, please email the webmaster.
