Seans Strike Six in Youths Great Eight

A rampant Brakes' Youth ran riot at Irchester with a Sean Rellis hat-trick, two from Sean McCarthy, and one from Sean Staunton making it a good day to be called Sean. Strikes from Ashley Powell and Luke Pittaway completed Brakes scoring in an astonishing show of skill and strength. Irchester pulled one back for 1-2 at half-time within seconds of Rellis's second in a classic example of the sucker punch but there was little else to upset the Brakes bench as Brakes ran riot in the second half.

The teams were fairly evenly matched in the first period but the nippy Rellis broke the deadlock in the 30th nodding home an Aulak flick, 0-1. Powell, now seemingly fully recovered from a bad foot injury at the end of last season was dominant in midfield winning every header with Webb, continuing his hugely impressive form of previous games, sending superb, on-target crosses into the box.

Aulak, arguably the most impressive player on the field, took time out from creating chances to shoot powerfully only to see his goal-bound drive beaten away. But it was Rellis, again, who made it 0-2 in the 44th with a penalty driven low to the right of the 'keeper after being brought down in the box. Seconds later it was 1-2 as young Brakes fell to the classic sucker-punch when an Irchester striker ran through to crash the ball into the net.

Webb went close with a shot from distance in the 49th that curled just past the intersection of post and bar but that man Rellis robbed a defender and ran on to smash home his hat-trick in the 52nd minute, 1-3; Seans 3 Everyone Else 0. Aulak turned the opposition at will and Webb slung over more perfect crosses as Brakes controlled the game against the less fit Irchester. In the 60th minute Powell stole upfield to power home a header and get one back for the non-Seans, 1-4, but the differential was reinstated when Sean McCarthy made it 1-5 in the 74th after good work by Aulak.

With Irchester crumbling Brakes were looking as if they could score at will. And it was Luke Pittaway, replacing Rellis in the 71st, who lobbed the 'keeper in the 78th to make it 1-6 to set up the non-Seans with a fighting chance. But, it was not to be, and two more Sean goals, a McCarthy smash in the 88th for 1-7 followed by a Staunton leaping header after a corner from the right for 1-8 in the 89th restored the Seans lead.
