| COVENTRY MARCONI 1 v LEAMINGTON 0 Midland Combination Premier division Abandoned in the 27th minute |
Tue 4 Nov 03 |
By Roger Vincent
Somebody Up There .....Marconi threatened to run riot against struggling Brakes totally controlling the midfield. Blake received a yellow and, in the same minute, the 14th, Marconi were 1-0 ahead when Partridge headed home a corner past a static defence. Gettings conceded a free kick in the 16th on the edge of the area, earning Brakes another yellow, and Marconi had the ball in the net, again, from the twice-taken kick, fortunately disallowed. Although Sleem hit the post from a Shearsby free kick in the 23rd this did not look like being Brakes' night and, as a collective prayer was sent up from the 100 or so fans into the warm, dry air, about half of the bulbs on each of the lights went out in the 27th minute. The problem was identified as a burnt-out phase in a sub-station, also affecting the club-house and, we believe, the Marconi plant. Fortunately this could not be repaired until the next day so the fans repaired to the darkened bar to give thanks for deliverance in the time-honoured fashion. Leamington: James Gettings; Jonny Burgess; Harj Dhesi; Niels
Kristensen; Andy Gregory; Barry Shearsby [Capt.]; Chris Hanrahan; Darren Timms;
Vernor Sleem; Paul Nicholls; Josh Blake Team News: Tom Sidwell well again and kicking in. |
