1st Years Make the Grade

An 11:00 ko at Priors Marston was hastily arranged to give the 1st years (mostly 15/16 year olds) a game against Premier opposition. Young Brakes did far better than the score suggests and were on top most of the match. Borough had 2 very strong goalkeepers and a couple of fast forwards, one of who slotted home in the 12th minute against the run of play.

At times Brakes looked like they were strolling through the game and could score when they had to. Several clear chances were missed as the forwards tried to walk the ball into the net before Ian Groves, one of twins Ian and Martin who were both due to sign after the match, strode through the middle to drive the ball into the net.

There were some promising displays which augurs well for the future but Gary Moore had to save a couple of shots before the more direct Borough got the winner in the 78th.

Leamington: Gary Moore; James Taylor (Leigh Barton 46); Stuart Poole; Martin Groves; Ben Halstead-Smyth; Lakhdeep Dosanjh; Ian Groves; Phil Thompson; Rich Sutton; Adam Butcher; Josh Tolley
