By David Hucker Brakes' Lose Out in Injury TimeOn a pitch that would have been described in racing parlance as "good to firm, firm in places", Young Brakes lived to regret the numerous missed chances that fell by the wayside in both halves. An injury-time winner gave Sphinx the double and, once again, Leamington had only themselves to blame. An injury to Lee Scott saw Ben Webster take over at the heart of the defence with the ever-improving Tim Green donning the captain's armband. The first twenty minutes saw just about every player except Lee van Der Heyden have a shot on goal but very few of them actually troubled the home goalkeeper. The second half was end-to-end stuff with both sides having near misses. The match took on an ugly tone on 60 minutes when some robust Sphinx tackling saw Jimmy Claridge booked for retaliation. Both management teams joined in the action and eventually the football took over again. James Taylor again had a good game in defence but, apart from Tom Rudge, the attack failed to fire. Josh Tolley, who is to have an extended trial with Leicester City, brought some life to the proceedings but to no avail. Youth team football is coming to the New Windmill Ground with fixtures on 23 April (against Highgate); 30 April (Rugby United); 2 May (Alvechurch) and 9 May (Redditch United). The season goes on! Leamington: Lee Van Der Heyden; James Taylor; Nick Collen; Tim Green (Capt.); Ben Webster; Mark Beezley; Jimmy Claridge; Lakhdeep Dosanjh (James Mellings 70 minutes); Lee Martin; Neil Stacey (Josh Tolley 61 minutes); Tom Rudge |
