By David Hucker Brakes Stall at Home to AlvestonAfter last week's emphatic win against Kenilworth Town, Leamington came down to earth with a bump losing 2-0 to a stronger and more experienced Alveston side. Last season, the visitors finished third in the southern division of the league, mixing it with sides of the calibre of Worcester City and Gloucester City. Their size and strength told throughout the match and Leamington were not able to capitalise on the opportunities that came their way. Two goals in a four-minute spell midway through the first half sealed victory for Alveston and, despite second half pressure, the home team did not look like winning. With Neil Stacey absent on holiday, the Leamington strike force looked a bit lightweight against a very tall and competent goalkeeper and it is to be hoped that the team will gain from this experience and go from strength to strength. The crowd of 104 (surely the largest at Gypsy Lane for years?) was swelled by Jason Cadden and a number of first-team players. I am assured that the full squad will be available for selection on Saturday, but then again, it might not. With the first team playing at Wilmcote next Wednesday evening, support for the youngsters will be thin on the ground for the match against Marconi. Anyone not able to get to Wilmcote for the indecently early time of 5.45 should go along to support the youth side. It's a good evening out for only £2 including a programme. |
