Goal-Shy Brakes Well Beaten

Brakes were on top in the first half having most of the possession but failed, once again, to threaten the opposition goal. As shot after shot went over the bar, or straight into the hands of a competent goalie, they were always open to the sucker punch which came on 15 minutes after a Town breakaway.

The second half started with more good approach work from Brakes but Town increased their lead on 50 minutes with a strong run from their number 6 straight through the heart of the defence ending in a shot against the post and a goal from the rebound. As Brakes' frustration grew they stopped playing football and resorted to punts into the Town goal area hoping for that elusive goal.

Town grew in confidence with Brakes' increasing desperation and they were well on top for the final half hour though they only managed one more goal on 75 minutes after another strong run on goal from the left to which Brakes had no answer.

Stratford are in the Midland Alliance, 2 divisions above Brakes, and the result should be seen in that context. But unless someone finds their shooting boots, and soon, there may be a crisis of confidence at the start of the season; a few goals would make all the difference but, at the moment, it's hard to see where they will come from.
