Midland Combination Division Two

Resilient Wardens Pipped at the Post

A good mid-week crowd of 375 saw Brakes move further in front at the top with another 3 points against a Wardens side who may just have avoided the drop.

With several players unavailable or injured Brakes struggled at times to play good football and succumbed to an 11th minute goal from Wardens. After going close on several occasions Baz Shearsby put Brakes level in the 45th with a crashing drive that Wardens goalie couldn't hold.

Academy player, 16 year old Louis (say it Lewis) Atkinson, came on for Hayden Proctor early in the 2nd half and made a promising debut using his speed to advantage and going very close when he worked his way across goal only to shoot just wide. With Stuart Hepburn on for Baz Shearsby Brakes continued to press and were rewarded with a beautiful low drive from Hepburn into the corner of the net in the 82nd minute to take all 3 points.

Leamington Paul O'Keeffe; Martin Beeston; Guy Rippon; Will Payne; Liam McGovern; Adam Ball; Darren Timms; Mark Simmonds; Hayden Proctor (Louis Atkinson 55m); Brian Agar (captain); Barry Shearsby (Stuart Hepburn 62m)
Unused sub: Richard Morris
